The Blackheath Mens Shed was formed at the end of 2012, following a year of intense planning by many interested local men.
A local Tony Jacques had the initial idea of a Men's Shed, and he was quickly joined by others. An approach was made to the Blackheath Baptist Church who had a property at 8 Bundrra Street. This old large house and garage had been used for many years by the Blackheath Area Neighbourhood Centre's Disability Access service. The Disabilty Access Service had relocated to its current location in WentworthStreet.
The Church saw the formation of the Men's Shed as a significant contribution to the life of the Blackheath community, and made the premises avaiable at no charge for the initial two years. Subsequent years the premises is made available at a nominal charge to offset council rates.
A steering committee was formed, a public meeting held, and planning accelerated until the shed first opened its doors in October 2012.
